The second book of documents on the Chornobyl disaster was presented in the Exclusion zone.

«It is very symbolic that the presentation of this important book we are holding on the territory of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. 34 years have passed since the accident, but even today it is very important that all people know the truth about those events. I am sincerely grateful to the State Branch Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, the Institute of History of Ukraine, the compilers and participants of this project. I am confident that society will appreciate this important work», - said Maksym Shevchuk, Deputy Head of SAUEZM.

Anton Drobovych, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, said: «Work on the Chornobyl KGB Dossier began long before the world-famous HBO series «Chernobyl» was released. We are glad that now the materials of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance fall into resonance that created this series. In these materials you can find a lot of information that will help deepen the understanding of the tragedy, in particular: the preconditions of the disaster, reports and materials that speak of small accidents that occurred at the Chornobyl NPP and were hidden».

Anton Drobovych also emphasized: «This book continues the direction we have been following at the Institute for a long time, namely the coverage of the historical truth about the tragic, resonant events of the past. We are very pleased that most of the documents presented in this paper are published for the first time. This will expand access to the truth about the crimes of the totalitarian system, about this catastrophe in general, and about the fact that humanity must learn the right lessons not only in Ukraine but all over the world».

Andriy Kohut, director of the SSU's Branch State Archives and one of the compilers, said that when the compilers began working on the topic, they hoped that a collection would be published and would cover the KGB's view of the Chornobyl tragedy from construction to 1991.

According to Valery Seida, First Deputy Director General of the SSE «Chornobyl NPP», attention to the Chornobyl NPP site should not decrease, as the problems of the Chornobyl zone still need to be brought to a logical end. Yes, it is very symbolic that the presentation takes place against the memorial, where the names of people who gave their lives to stop, to minimize the consequences of the Chornobyl accident are engraved.

«When we started working on organizing the first book of documents, it turned out that there were a lot of materials and we divided the whole package into two topics - from 1986 to 1991 and the second package - construction and the accident itself. Thus, among the documents included in the new book there are reports of accidents that occurred before 1986, a transcript of telephone conversations at the Chornobyl NPP on the night of the accident on April 26, a copy of the first report of the accident, information about the investigation and construction of «Sarcophagus», - Andriy Kohut specified.

For reference. Documentary publication «Chornobyl KGB dossier. From construction to accident» contains 229 documents, the vast majority of which (190) are published for the first time. Documents are published in the original language in chronological order.

«Chornobyl KGB dossier. From construction to accident» is a joint project of the State Branch Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and is a continuation of a series of books - documentary evidence of the Chornobyl KGB dossier».
