European Commission supports SAUEZM in further work on improving radioactive waste management system in Ukraine
During the Strategic Planning Project Meeting of the Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC) discussions were held on improving the management of the radioactive waste management system (RAW) of Ukraine in the framework of future projects of the program. In particular, the terms of reference for projects should be developed, the implementation of which will help to improve the effectiveness of the SAUEZM in this area and fully integrate the concept of «safety culture» into the radwaste management system.
«The SAUEZM enterprise system is currently in an active phase of reform and attracting the best European experience to this process is a great opportunity to make improvements even deeper. We must create a sustainable and efficient structure to ensure safety in the management of radioactive waste in the future», - said Head of SAUEZM Vitalii Petruk.
In particular, the meeting discussed the general objectives of future projects, recommended scope of changes, and also agreed on the structure and timing of project development. The representatives of the European Commission also informed the SAUEZM about the successful implementation of such projects in the United Kingdom and for the Ukrainian State Enterprise «Energoatom».
