Radioactive materials survey in the exclusion zone to be continued

Director General of the State Scientific-Research Institution "Chornobyl Centre for Nuclear Safety, Radioactive Waste and Radioecology" (SSRI "Chornobyl Centre") M. Bondarkov and A. Maksimenko (the head of logistics research services from the International Radiological Laboratory) attended the technical meeting on implementation of the 3rd phase of the project on "Survey of radioactive materials decaying in the Chernobyl exclusion zone (additional work)."

The meeting was held from 7 to 10 February, 2016 in the city of Warsaw, Poland. The participants summarized the results of work completed in accordance with the third stage of the project and discussed the possibilities of further studies in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

All work is performed according to the "Framework Agreement on Cooperative Threat Reduction for Ukraine" between the USA and Ukraine from October 25, 1993 concerning the promotion on the destruction of strategic nuclear weapons in Ukraine and preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and the development of the state system protection, control and accounting materials for the protection of nuclear materials used for peaceful purposes in Ukraine.

Customer is Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC, which is the general contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Beneficiary is the State Exclusion Zone Agency (SEZA).
