SAUEZM and US Forest Service Extend Collaboration to Improve Fire Safety of Exclusion Zone
During the meeting of the Heads of SAUEZM and enterprises of the Exclusion Zone with representatives of the US Forest Service the results and prospects of cooperation between the institutions were discussed. In particular, representatives of the Forest Service noted the progress made by the SAUEZM in establishing the Coordination Center on Emergencies Management and assured their readiness to continue providing expert assistance under this project.
«Working with the United States on improvement of fire safety of the Exclusion zone is a key priority for the Agency. Thanks to the Forest Service, the enterprises of the Exclusion zone are provided with material and logistical assistance in order to prevent and respond to emergencies. In particular, this year SSE «Pivnichna Pushcha» received humanitarian assistance to fight forest fires, and Ukrainian experts took a Leadership-580 training course and exchanged experience with the US National Fire Bureau», - noted a.i. Head of SAUEZM Oleksandr Kovalchuk.
Director of Chornobyl Radiation and Environmental Reserve also reported on the progress in developing the Fire Management Plan following the trip to the United States. Forest Service representatives agreed to review the developed plan and provide their comments and recommendations.
Beside this, during the meeting the experts reached an agreement on cooperation to build the communication capacity of the Exclusion zone, in particular, to assist the United States in developing and organizing the communication plan. The relevant meeting is scheduled for December 9-10, 2019.
