SAUEZM drafted amendments to legislation on strengthening of liability for violations of radiation safety regime requirements
In pursuance of Presidential Decree No. 512 of July 10, 2019 «On Some Issues of the Development of Territories Affected by the Chornobyl Catastrophe» the State agency of Ukraine on Exclusion zone management has drafted a law «On introduction of amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses on strengthening of liability for violations of radiation safety regime requirements in areas that have been exposed to radioactive contamination».
«Its adoption will allow more secure protection of citizens' rights to a safe environment, reduce the number of violators of the Exclusion zone regime and ensure compliance of the degree of public danger of the offense with the degree of administrative responsibility for it», - noted a.i. Head of SAUEZM Oleksandr Kovalchuk.
The proposed amendments foresee not only an increase in financial liability for violations, but also public works and administrative arrest.
If today the fine for this violation is from 20 to 30 tax-free minimum incomes, then after the amendments it will be from 100 to 250.
Also, the new amendments include punishment in the form of community service (40 to 60 hours) or administrative arrest (5 to 10 days).
For officials, the fine will increase from 25-30 tax-free minimum incomes to 200-1000.
The confiscation of the tools used to commit the offenses remains unchanged.
The bill is currently undergoing legal review by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
