SSE «CERWM» has successfully fulfilled the annual program for decontamination of the Exclusion zone territory

In 2019, State specialized enterprise «Central enterprise for radioactive waste management»successfully fulfilled the plan for elimination of trenches and bursts of points of temporary localization of radioactive waste and disposed 4750 m3 of radioactive waste at Buryakivka disposal point. These works were carried out under the budget program «Maintaining an environmentally safe state in the exclusion zone and zone of unconditional (mandatory) resettlement».

According to the director of SSE «CERWM» Sergii Kostyuk, collection, transportation, storage, disposal of radioactive waste resulting from the Chornobyl catastrophe are one of the main tasks of the enterprise at the level of radioactive waste management, which are being formed to this day. Such a task is defined by a number of laws of Ukraine and Decree of the President of Ukraine №196/2018.

Previously, a Research Information Center for Radioactive Waste Management of the SSE «CERWM» conducted a survey of trenches and bursts, and an analysis of the results of the studies, execution of Technical Decisions and approval of them by the SNRCU.

In addition, within the framework of the decommissioning of the Chornobyl NPP, SSE «CERWM» accepted for disposal over 3300 m3 of radioactive waste to the Buryakivka disposal point, in particular, radiation contaminated large structures in the form of reinforced concrete blocks, from the Chornobyl NPP.
